3 DAYS SAMBURU SAFARI

  • Samburu National Reserve is one of the lesser-known national parks, but is nevertheless teeming with life. Situated alongside the Ewaso Nyiro River, there is plenty to attract wildlife from the surrounding savannah plains. The reserve is rich in wildlife with an abundance of rare northern specialist species such as the Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and the beisa oryx (also referred to as Samburu Special Five). The reserve is also home to elephants and large predators such as the lion, leopard and cheetah. Kamunyak the miracle lioness that adopted the baby oryx was as a resident in the reserve. Wild dog sightings are also a common attraction to this unique protected area. Birdlife is abundant with over 450 species recorded.

  • Samburu Game Viewing:
    Samburu animals include cheetah, lion, leopard, impala, buffalo, hippo, and dik-dik, as well as the native gerenuk, Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe and Beisa Oryx. You are guaranteed to see most animals during the dry season as they converge at the Uaso Nyiro River, their main source of water during the long dry weather. Elephants are also spotted during this time, and you can watch the Nile crocodiles swim in the river.
  • Samburu Bird Viewing:
    Samburu National Reserve is a paradise for bird lovers, with over 350 species of birds already recorded. You can enjoy a colorful assortment of birds such as vultures, kingfishers, marabous, eagles, guinea fowl, Somali ostriches and many more.

DAY 1: SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE

  • Early in the morning after breakfast , depart Nairobi and proceed North to Samburu National Reserve approximately 390km from Nairobi. Throughout the 6 hour journey you will see the natural landscape of Kenya and the northern part of Kenya. Arrive at the lodge in time for lunch. Relax and freshen up, take a nap, read a book, and enjoy your beautiful camp or lodge. In the heat of the day, the animals are resting as well so you won't be missing anything by relaxing in your camp or lodge. Around 1530hrs, you will meet for tea and then head out for your game drive. As the afternoon gets cooler the animals become more active, with elephants heading down to the river to drink and wild dogs hunting in packs. Return leisurely back to the lodge or camp arriving in time for dinner.

DAY 2: SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE

  • After an early breakfast set out for an early morning game drive in the reserve. This is usually the most popular game viewing time. During the early hours temperatures are low, thus providing a favorable atmosphere both for the game and the viewer. Lion, Cheetah and Leopard roam the vast grasslands in search for their next meal, it may be an unsuspecting impala or even a small one like the warthog…whatever the players, and the spectacle of nature unfolding is always awe inspiring! At 12:30pm you will enjoy your lunch in the lodge. Spend the rest of the day at the camp enjoying facilities available at the lodge.

DAY 3: END OF ITINERARY

  • Breakfast will be served at the lodge. Check out and depart by road to Nairobi with game viewing en-route. Drop off at your hotel / residence ending this memorable tour.
